EMERGENCY DEMONSTATION TOMORROW: PIONEER SQUARE 3:30 P.M. - STOP THE GENOCIDE NOW!

CEASE FIRE NOW!

The Israeli Army has invaded the Gaza Strip with a military force estimated at 10,000 troops using American-supplied military equipment, tanks and bulldozers backed by helicopter gunships.

This invasion represents a serious escalation to the ongoing attacks and carnage that Israel has been committing against the 1.5 million Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip over the past eight days.

Although Israel's war crimes against Palestinian civilians goes back decades, Israel's aerial bombardment over the past week alone has resulted in the killing of more than 450 Palestinian men, women and children and 2,000 have been wounded.

The Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated areas in the world with more than 6000 civilians living per sq km.

In some areas such as the Jabalya refugee camp, one of the eight refugee camps in the Strip, 100,000 people live in an area no more than 1.4 sq km.

The ground invasion will lead to a significant increase in civilian causalities.

STOP THE MASSACRES NOW!

*****

• The Israeli airstrikes represent serious violations of international law – including the Geneva Conventions and a range of international humanitarian law.

• The U.S. is complicit in the Israeli violations – both directly and indirectly.

• The timing of the air strikes has far more to do with U.S. and Israeli politics than with protecting Israeli civilians.

• This serious escalation will push back any chance of serious negotiations between the parties that might have been part of the Obama administration’s plans.

Get involved in the campaign to end the Israeli attacks and occupation of Palestinian land.

Salam to All,

Student United for Palestinian Equal Rights and Muslim Student Association

Vigil for Gaza welcomes all who wish to peacefully protest against the
blockade of Gaza and the current attacks on its people by Israeli occupation. The vigil
is a space to gather, speak, bear witness, pray, meditate, chant or otherwise
demonstrate that we find this situation unacceptable.

For anyone who interested and angry enough about the massacre in Gaza, come together and join us to light candles in an act of solidarity with the people of Gaza.

If you are able to attend the launch of the vigil on Friday the 9th January at
5.30pm, in Pioneer Square - Downtown Portland. Please come along and spread the message.

"There is no safe space in the Gaza Strip- no safe haven, no bomb shelters, and the borders are closed
making this one of the rare conflicts where civilians have no place to flee. Of particular concern are the growing numbers of children killed and injured.  Every other person in Gaza is a child (56 percent of the population), and they remain dangerously exposed to the fighting around them. At least 101 children have been killed, almost one thousand injured and tens of thousands traumatized."

-United Nations situation Report on Gaza Crisis.

Due to the escalating situation in Gaza and the devastating effect it has had on the children of Gaza we will be holding a vigil where we can all gather, speak, bear witness, pray, meditate, chant or otherwise
demonstrate that we find this situation unacceptable.:

The Vigil will be held this Friday for the Victims of the Israeli invasion and siege of Gaza:

WHERE:        PIONEER COURTHOUSE SQUARE NEAR THE STARBUCKS
WHEN:         Fri., Jan. 9th at 5:30 pm

We will be providing candles for all those interested in participating in the vigil.  You are also welcomed and encouraged to bring your own candles, flowers, cards and signs. We look forward to seeing you there.

For additional information on this, you can contact (503) 283-8873 or 602-446-9444. The Sponsors of the Vigil include the Muslim Students Association and Students United for Palestinian Equal Rights at PSU.  Please come and show that you care by joining us.

Our Palestinian brothers and sisters in Gaza need us to take to the streets and demand an end to the massacre.

This morning, we woke up to the news that the Israeli military has
slaughtered 30 and wounded 55 Palestinian civilians taking refuge at
the U.N. School. The bombardment from land, air and sea is continuing
and the death toll nears 600 Palestinian men, women and children and
over 2,500 wounded.

Come down to Pioneer Square this Saturday, January 10 at 3:00 p.m. and make your voices heard.

Comparisons between Barack Obama's assumption of power and Franklin
Delano Roosevelt's in 1933 have been many and varied. None of this is
surprising. Roosevelt's New Deal is remembered today for signature
programs that seem very relevant in light of the economic disaster
spreading from Wall Street through the rest of the economy. The New
Deal is synonymous with Social Security; with the "alphabet soup"
agencies like the WPA (Works Progress Administration, which created
jobs for the unemployed constructing public buildings); and with the
government's recognition of the right of workers to join unions.

But
the New Deal didn't come about because of some hitherto hidden
enthusiasm among American political leaders for giving working people
new rights and programs. The New Deal was, first and foremost, a
program to save a U.S. economy in crisis. That American workers made
gains was the result of huge struggles that gave a radical content to
that program. Join the International Socialist Organization for a
discussion on this incredibly relevant period in U.S. history.

FREE PALESTINE! Activists Speak Out Against the Massacre in Gaza!

Thursday, January 29th, 7:15pm. PSU Smith Memorial Student Union, Room 101

Are you outraged at Israel's war path through Gaza?
Who wouldn't be at the senseless destruction, loss of innocent life,
the targeting of schools and mosques, the use of horrific chemical
weapons such as white phosphorus, the razing of not only homes but
whole neighborhoods and cities... It's an immeasurable catastrophe.

This
conflict raises questions of local, national, and international
significance. In order for our movement to be effective and to grow
wide and strong, we must come together to learn and exchange ideas.
