The Myth of Progress in Iraq
All of the reasons given to justify the war in Iraq--that Saddam Hussein was stockpiling chemical weapons, that he was working on germ warfare devices and the nuclear bomb, that he was connected with 9/11 and that he was conspiring with al-Qaida--have been proven to be false. Now politicians from both parties are giving us new reasons to stay in Iraq and the Middle East--Bush's surge is working and curbing the violence in Iraq, Iraq will descend into a sectarian civil war if the U.S. pulls out, the U.S. is needed to stabilize the Middle East, etc.. This workshop aims to present the real motives behind the occupation of Iraq and arm the antiwar movement with the arguments for immediate withdrawal based on what is really happening on the ground.

2:00PM – Presentation: Displaced Iraqis – By Iraqi student Samir Alani

3:30PM – Presentation and Discussion: Iraqi Refugees – Zahra will talk about the situation of refugees displaced in Iraq and of Iraqi refugees in Jordan
